Fashion Futures: 2014 the Year of Wearable Technology

Forbes states that 2014 will be the year of Wearable Technology, and they aren't wrong. 2013 has seen the start of what will be a massive trend.

Like the mobile phone, the beginning has seen unsightly design (Google Glass isn't that stylish.. yet) and really who wants to wear a Sony Smartwig? So I'm not really selling the whole wearable technology trend here. But my point is like mobiles they will become more refined, more stylish and elegant in design you just have to look at Apple, Samsung and Nokia etc today.

Fashion is beginning to take notice of wearable technology designer Diane Von Furstenberg incorporated Google Glass into her catwalk shows earlier this year. This gives an  insight into behind the scenes of such designers and allowing the consumer to feel closer to the brand.

Vogue's September issue saw the first fashion spread that also incorporated Google Glass into a photo shoot appropriately named "The Final Frontier". Rival tech company Apple has also been taking steps forward to utilise wearable technology into their brand having hired ex Burberry CEO Andrea Ahrendts to work on wearable device projects. So what does this all mean? Well the lines between technology and fashion is ever diminishing and within the next year wearable technology will be more stylish and the design will be more fashion led. These devices hold new marketing opportunities are to be taken advantage. With other technology sectors becoming saturated this is the ideal opportunity to be seen above others.
